all these techie freaks and their post-food wet dreams gotta die asap
soylent and all its ilk that presents itself as the ‘future’ of food while really being just one step away from not eating at all… all clearly based on a fantasy of a nutrition pill to remove the human need not only for food but the communal experience of mealtime… its a commodified eating disorder
When you look at these things it becomes more and more clear that they’re the most recent trend in the mechanization+industrialization of the human body.
I think it was Silvia Federici who wrote that the first machines of capitalism were not looms or clocks, but human beings. Only once we had been further reduced to a device which consumed food and output labor could capitalism and profit begin to supplant feudalism and subsistence.
Chickens in battery cages are no longer chickens, as far as the producer is concerned. They are machines which connect to food and water supply tubes going in, and egg and waste tubes going out. They show none of the behaviors of a chicken–scratching for insects, mothering chicks, interacting with other chickens. They have no meaningful relationship with any other living things, save perhaps the bacteria that low-level antibiotics in their feed futilely attempt to scrub away. An egg laying operation of this kind is not a farm, but a factory.
The same is true of conventional agriculture producing soybeans, corn, rice, wheat, etc. The farm is not an ecosystem cycling nutrients, sharing abundance and acting as the home of hundreds of species of bacteria, fungi, insects, viruses and small birds and mammals. It is a large factory into which you pump nitrogen fertilizers, herbicides, and hybrid seeds and extract bioproducts.
When food is reduced from a cultural+social experience to be shared with friends to a hurried bite snatched during a 30-minute break, and then to nothing more than the most reductionist view of calories from fat and protein, amino acids and mineral content, it is no longer food. It is merely fuel, another input to the human machine, the worker, which exists only to produce just as a furnace exists only to heat a building.
Dale Earnhardt, Jr. Tweeted in support of the NFL protesters and added that JFK quote, “Those who make peaceful revolution impossible will make violent revolution inevitable.” Which. Is unfathomably woke for NASCAR
I mean, wrong Dale Earnhardt in the photo but it works for me.
Dale Jr also spoke up to support immigrants and he pushed for the removal of confederate flags from race cars.
Junior also put a piece of tape under the left “headlight” of his car as a tribute to Left Eye’s memory after she died. (Red #8)
I was not expecting any of this??
I was curious about the last thing and found this article from the time with this explanation:
Dale Earnhardt Inc. will honor the late Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes, of the popular R&B group TLC, this weekend at Richmond’s Pontiac Excitement 400 by carrying special stripes on all three of the company’s Winston Cup Chevrolets, including the No. 8 Budweiser car of Dale Earnhardt Jr.
Lopes, 30, was killed instantly in a traffic accident in Honduras on April 25. Within days, morgue photos of Lopes were circulated on the internet, striking a nerve within the Earnhardt organization.
Teresa Earnhardt, wife of seven-time NASCAR Winston Cup Champion Dale Earnhardt, was drawn into extensive courtroom battles protecting the privacy of her family and memory of her late husband following his death in February of 2001. Several news organizations and a website unsuccessfully tried to obtain autopsy photos of Earnhardt following his fatal accident.
“We want to express our deepest sympathy to her family, friends and fans. She has a huge following here at our shop,” said Steve Crisp, Director of Media Relations for the Mooresville, NC-based company.
“We all wanted to do something to honor her and express our feelings to her family, friends and fans. Losing a loved one is difficult beyond description. Her family should be allowed to get through their loss without additional torment, especially something as painful as autopsy or morgue photos. We’ve all been through it here at Dale Earnhardt Incorporated and we know how tormenting it can be. As an expression of our feelings, we’ve added stripes below the left headlight of each of our cars,” Crisp added.
As funny as this is some teenagers actually did this shit one day. They were bicycling around the neighborhood and got an alert. Looked up, saw a car fitting the description. Mother fucking kids BOOKED it after the car on their bikes like Lance Armstrong on steroids. The kidnapper freaked out and ditched the vehicle and the kids rescued the baby. Best part was the kid they interviewed was wearing a Batman t-shirt and he was like “Well, Sir….This is my neighborhood.”
“I bet you could take that hakuna matata scene and put any other song over it. There is absolutely nothing about their movements, their expressions, the composition of the shots, the editing that conveys what kind of song they’re singing” - @sabertoothwalrusx
hot take: movies cutting scenes that reveal a character is lgbt and then confirming it in interviews is.. not representation
Also, movies having scenes that confirm a nameless character as LGBT with no bearing on the plot that could easily be cut for international distributions…is not representation
